Self- Care Practices For Creative Entrepreneurs

In the darkest night of the soul, curiosity, play, and imagination would switch the light on and bring back life and joy.

If I were to write a letter to my younger self, I would let her know that no matter what, she would always find back to joy. You see, it wasn’t always obvious.

Being a creative entrepreneur is an exciting, fulfilling, and expansive experience. It is also risky and unstable. Why choose that kind of life? Why not settle for a steady 9-5? I have been asked that so many times. Those days when I am tired and overworked and not seeing results, I ask myself that too, and then I am quickly reminded what happens when I give up on my dreams.

An unbearable dark night of the soul.

It wasn’t the first time I had felt like dying, but it was the first time I thought dying was the only way to make the pain go away.

Today, I know I am not alone in feeling this pain.

A study conducted at the University of California found that 72% of entrepreneurs had concerns about their mental health, 30% reported having a lifetime history of depression.

These are high numbers.

We need to talk.

In the midst of that pain I wondered if there were other outsiders somewhere who felt like me, and if there were, I wanted to find them.

This curiosity prompted an internal light switch on and took me on journey that ultimately led me to finding the source joy in my life. Not as a superficial gimmick or a spiritual bypassing. But rather, a deep, connected, embodied access to that life-giving energy. I gave myself Permission to Play, Releasing Shame and Opening up to Creativity, Pleasure, and Joy.

This journey of initiation, which took me around the world, taught me about connection, our shared humanity, the power of naming feelings and recognizing the obstacles to experiencing joy.

I want to share with you how I laid the foundation for Creating Joy and coming back to a joy-filled LIFE.
